The Davanti Trio Performance

The Davanti Trio will give its first performance at the Flint Institute of Music, at 7:00 pm, Friday, June 6 in the MacArthur Recital Hall at the Flint Institute of Music, 1025 E. Kearsley St. in Flint. The performance is free, as is the reception that follows. This new chamber music ensemble comprised of Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) faculty members Jessica Price (flute) and Ina Yoon (piano) and Flint Symphony Orchestra violinist Barton Rotberg, achieved a third place finish in the prestigious 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition. The group traveled to Boston University College of Fine Arts to participate in the competition May 22; they were honored in an awards ceremony at The First Church in Boston on May 24. Meaning "forward" in Italian, Davanti provides a fresh, new sound in chamber music. With its unusual instrumentation of two soprano instruments, the flute and violin, coupled with piano, the group performs an enticing repertoire that is rarely featured. The group was formed in the fall of 2007 through a bequest from the late David T. Dort. Dort, who had studied flute for a number of years with Price, had the dream of establishing a chamber music program at the Flint Institute of Music. The group has performed several recitals throughout the region.
