Add Review/CommentDark, disturbing dramas from the 1940s and '50s are highlighted in a two-day event at the FIA Theater. The festival opens July 18 with "Scarlet Street" (1945), starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea in a tale of a lowly cashier who falls under the influence of a manipulative woman. On July 19 is "The Hitch-Hiker," a 1951 thriller directed by Ida Lupino in which two fishing buddies (Edmond O'Brieb, Frank Lovejoy) pick up a psychotic convict. Capping the festival on July 20 is a double feature: "Contraband," a 1940 British drama with Conrad Veidt, and "Detour," a low-budget 1945 film considered by many to be among the greatest B-movies of all time.
