The Michigan Invitational Tournament is Mid-Michigan's oldest and most prestigious high school marching band competition. This year over 22 high schools from across the state will participate in the competitively judged event. The bands are classified into four different "flights" based on the size of the school. Known as "The Sport of the Arts," competitive marching bands are judged on topics such as music effect, visual illustrations, and solo and ensemble performances. The events and judges are sanctioned through the Michigan Competing Bands Association, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion of instrumental music education. The competition is sponsored by The Flushing Band and Orchestra Boosters, Inc. This 501 (c)(3) organization is the fund raising, parent volunteer association of the award winning Flushing Raider Marching Band.
