Mid Michigan Derby Girls proudly offer Roller Derby 101 Roller Derby 101 is an introductory clinic to derby. We have taken the time to develop a course that will start with the very basics. It couldn't be easier to become a derby girl!! What can I expect? You can expect a warm and friendly welcome for each of our derby girls. We are everyday women from all walks of life. We are students, moms and professionals who have bonded together as derby sisters. We are a supportive group on and off the track, who would love the opportunity to introduce you to ROLLER DERBY There is no feeling like an outsider in our league, if you want to learn derby, we want to teach you!! What will I learn? You will learn the basics of derby. We will explain the concept of the game and the rules. We will cover the most basic skating skills, propelling, weaving, crossovers, stops, etc. We understand this may be a refresher for some skaters. We will then move onto proper derby posture, falling safely, blocking, whips, and assists. When can I start? The clinics will be held at Skateland from 11:30am-1:pm March 21st *April 4th *April 18th *May 2nd *May 16th *May 30th What should I bring/wear? Make sure you wear comfy work out clothes. If you have skates and/or pads bring them. If you don't own any of that stuff, don't worry. We will have skates and equipment for you to use. You will need a mouth guard, but these are available at Skateland for about $2. What is the cost? The one time registration fee is $15. This price is for a two-week trial of derby and includes: 2 consecutive Roller Derby 101 clinics, derby practices on Tuesday and Thursdays nights during the trial period. You may also come and watch scrimmage practices which take place on Sunday nights. You may choose to pay $5 for each clinic individually, but this will not entitle you to the additional practice times. Who will teach the class? Our derby veterans will teach this class. These girls have passed their WFTDA skills testing and are our most experienced skaters. We have a wide range of ability in our league, from girls who have only been skating a month, to girls who have skated for more than 35 years. Girls from every range will attend the classes to offer any assistance that they can. To register or for more info you may call 810-687-4686 or visit us on the web WWW.MIDMICHIGANDERBYGIRLS.COM
