On Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 7pm, head to Longway Planetarium to learn "How Many Ways Can a Black Hole Kill You" by Dr. Rajib Ganguly, Professor at U of M-Flint.
In the depths of space, black holes roam the Galaxy and the universe...
Contrary to popular belief, black holes are not lurking and waiting to pounce, ready to devour everything they can get their hands on. Nevertheless, they are dangerous. If you are in the wrong p...lace at the right (wrong?) time, they could tear you to shreds or swallow you whole. You could freeze to death, or be burned alive. Black holes are diverse objects providing many options for doing in the unweary. In this talk, we'll explore the many varied ways an encounter with a black hole could kill you. Along the way, we'll examine some of the more exotic objects the universe has to offer like Gamma-ray bursts and quasars.
This is free and open to the public, compliments of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Recommended for ages 13 and older.
