Dr. Ossian Sweet of Detroit found himself accused of murder for his self defense in 1925 of his newly-purchased home in a predominantly white neighborhood against a mob attempting to force him out. Famed attorney Clarence Darrow was a member of Sweet's defense team. Hear author and Michigan native Kevin Boyle talk about his acclaimed book. The Great Michigan Read is presented by the Michigan Humanities Council with the support of Meijer and the National Endowment for the Humanities. A limited number of books are available for check-out in the Browsing Department.
