Genesee County Spooktacular Kidney Walk
October 1, 2011
Add Review/Comment
More than 900,000 Michigan residents are currently living with chronic kidney disease and most don’t even know it. The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is asking you to help the fight against kidney disease. Join us at Crossroads Village in Flint on Saturday, October 1st at 11:30 a.m. to participate in the 2011 Genesee County Spooktacular Kidney Walk!
Walkers of all ages are invited to be part of the fun by walking individually or forming a team with family, friends, and co-workers. The day will include plenty of doughnuts, candy, cider, and other snacks for walkers, plus incentive prizes for top fundraisers, kids’ activities, and more. Walkers are encouraged to wear a Halloween costume and children are invited to do some early trick-or-treating at candy stations throughout the Village. The day will also feature an old-fashioned magic show as well as many of the Village’s favorite spooky friends.
“Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two leading causes of chronic kidney disease,” said NKFM President and CEO Daniel Carney. “Since 70 percent of those cases may have been prevented, the Kidney Walk will draw attention to the importance of early detection while raising funds for kidney patients and their families.”
The Genesee County Spooktacular Kidney Walk is sponsored by Meijer, Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, Siwek Construction, and many other local businesses.
In order to participate, each walker is expected to raise a minimum of $10, which will be credited towards their pledge total. Those raising $100 or more will be eligible for lots of great prizes. The money raised from this walk supports the many life-saving services offered by the NKFM.
For more information or to register, call the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan at 800-482-1455 or visit www.kidneywalk.org. On-site registration will also be accepted.
