ORBIT Innovation Entrepreneurship Development Training, a program teaching entrepreneurs and small business owners how to start or grow a technology business, will soon be “launching” in Flint, Mich.

“Participants will develop an effective business plan, learn how to pitch their idea, and understand how to succeed” said Neil Sheridan, Director of Kettering University TechWorks. “We will provide the training, networking, and mentoring to grow innovative ideas into Michigan-based companies hiring workers.”

With the help of expert partners, participants will walk through a variety of topics ranging from market research to funding and exit strategies. Alexander Masters, a course instructor, added that the success is derived from commitment to the training and applying lessons learned. “Speaking up in discussions, preparing for the sessions, and being flexible are key factors in making the most of our class.”

Participants’ attendance costs will be covered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Attendees will only be responsible for purchasing recommended reading (less than $50). Other text materials, supporting guides, and skill-building exercises will be provided by the TechWorks team. “We use them to promote collaborative relationships, networking, and team building among the attendees,” Sheridan said.

Expert guest presenters will also provide real-life examples of the many challenges and successes that an entrepreneur may experience. These speakers include patent attorneys, venture capitalists, technology entrepreneurs, and other professionals.

ORBIT consists of nine sessions with each session running from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Networking time is available at each session. Session dates are July 25, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, September 5, 12, and 19.

To register, please send your contact information to rsvp@ketering.edu. Any questions regarding the program may be directed to Alexander Masters at mast3240@kettering.edu or 810-762-9728.
