Ntozake Shange's choreopoem, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf

For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow is Enuf by Ntozake Shange is a choreopoem that depicts life for African American women in a racist, sexist and oppressive society.  Shange wove together 26 poems that tell the story of seven women, identified only by colors, who tells us what it means to be women of color in twenty-first century America.  This powerful and compelling piece has both the Obie Award for Off-Off Broadway plays, and the Outer Circle Award for Off-Broadway.  Suggested for mature audiences.
