Add Review/CommentMott Community College presents the third annual Free Jazz Festival featuring award-wining jazz musicians and student performers. Student musicians will have an excellent opportunity to sharpen their performing skills as well as showcase their talents at the Mott Community College Department of Music's Jazz Festival. The festival is for Community Colleges, Small Colleges, and High Schools. The event is scheduled for Friday, February 22 from 10am to 9 pm in the Mott Memorial Building on MCC's main campus in Flint. A concert featuring the students as well as internationally renowned jazz musicians will be held in the Mott Memorial Auditorium at 7:30pm Friday, February 22. The guest artists and clinician/adjudicators for the event include internationally acclaimed trombonist, composer and arranger Dave McMurdo and trumpeter, composer and arranger Mike Malone of the popular Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra of Canada. Both McMurdo and Malone are memebers of the music faculty at MCC's sister college, Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario and are both multiple Juno award winners (The Juno is the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy.) The festival will feature performances by the MCC Jazz Combo, Mcc Jazz Ensemble and MCC Steelheads and other college and high school jazz ensembles from across Michigan. The MCC groups will perform along with the guest artists in the 7:30 concert Friday evening. The public is welcome to attend all of the clinics, performances and the evening concert. For more information, call Chuck Iwanusa, MCC Director of Jazz Studies at (810) 232-3505.
