Member's Preview: Modernism, Surrealism, Documentary: French Photography, 1900–1945

Presented by Flint Institute of Arts at Flint Institute of Arts

Guest Lecturer
Juliet Hacking
Program Director, MA in Photography at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London

Discussing the lives and work of Atget, Bill Brandt, Man Ray, and Cartier-Bresson, among other less well-known names, Juliet Hacking will illuminate the photographs on display in French Twist, arguing that this period is particularly rich because of the competing tensions in photography between aesthetics and documentary.
