Visual Artist
About the artist:
Drawing is my skill, painting is my passion. Painting brings out my emotion and enthusiasm for art. I learned to draw before I could write, and never stopped the practice of representing all things that interested me by line and shade. I took classes as a child at the local art institute, and went on to started college Fine Arts major, focusing on figure drawing. Those years built the foundation for where I am now. I have returned to my passion, having survived the life experience of raising my family and building a career. In 2004, I completed the requirements to be a certified Frank Clarke Instructor designated by "Alexander Art and Simply Painting". I am a member of several art groups, Fenton Artist Guild, Grand Blanc Arts Council, Lapeer Art Association, and Shiawassee Arts Council. My work is display at the Art of the Market Gallery, a wonderful group of artists, in Flint Michigan. I have shown my paintings at Genesys Health System, Lapeer Arts Gallery, Shiawassee Art Gallery, and several local fairs such as the Flint Art Fair and the Grand Blanc Art Fair. Watercolor is my primary media, because I find the spontaneity of it fascinating. When working with watercolor I am filled with a sense of anticipation and playfulness that can't be captured any other way. Other media that I find exciting to work in are also water based, acrylic and casein. Acrylic is the modern water media that I use for collage. Casein is an older media that has a soft matte texture. Adding jewelry making, added just an extra dimension to play with. Mary Beth Schiros Grand Blanc MI
