Everyone is invited to sit back and relax on the third annual Flotilla down the Flint River. At the event individuals will bring floatation devices to enjoy a leisurely float down the river. The Flotilla will take place on Saturday, August 6 and is a fundraiser for the Flint River Corridor Alliance (FRCA).
From inner tubes to rafts to kayaks, participants should bring a flotation device to the event. There will be a limited supply of inner tubes available for purchase the day of the Flotilla. Kayaks can be reserved in advance by calling Redbeards Kayak and Canoe Livery at 810-210-7602. Trophies will be awarded in various categories for individual participants including the “Most Colorful” and “Highest Energy” awards.
The cost to participate in the event is $10 per person, children under the age of 12 are free. A family rate for individuals in the same household is $30. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with registration starting at noon, online registration is available in advance at www.frcalliance.org.
Participants will drop their cars off at Mott Park Golf Course on Sunset Drive just east of Ballenger Highway near McLaren Hospital. Anyone with a larger flotation device, such as a kayak, should proceed to the launch site to drop off their device before going back to leave their vehicle at Mott Park Golf Course.
A free shuttle will transport participants to the registration and launch site at Tenacity Brewing located at 119 N. Grand Traverse St. in Flint. The Flotilla route takes approximately two hours to complete along the river.
