The Flint Institute of Arts caps its 2018-19 Friends of Modern Art film series with a long-awaited documentary featuring the dynamic Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, singing gospel favorites.
Franklin’s concert film, shot in 1972 with a backing choir at a Los Angeles church, was to support her best-selling album “Amazing Grace.” The film went unreleased because of logistical concerns, and was kept from the public for legal reasons. Not until after Franklin’s death last year was a deal made for a release. The wait is worth it: Now, you can see and hear her sing the gospel songs Franklin grew up with.
