Greetings,
On May 6th, 2017, we will host a free all ages Cinco de Mayo event unlike any this city has witnessed.
This event will be centered in the heart of Downtown Flint, attract a diverse audience, and will be a platform not only to celebrate the Mexican American Culture but to celebrate the growth of Downtown Flint.
First and foremost Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of the Mexican army defeating the French forces at the battle of Puebla on May 5th 1862.
However, for many Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican American Culture.
Over the years we have noticed Cinco de Mayo celebrations consists, almost exclusively, of three aspects, those are:
Mexican food,
Mariachis,
And Ballet Folklorico (Mexican Dancers)
However, the Mexican American Culture has evolved!
This is why I’m proposing Cinco Nuevo, which is a Cinco de Mayo event celebrating the Mexican American Culture, past, present and future.
***all proceeds, after expenses, will be used to create the Bruno Valdez Music and Arts scholarship fund at Mott Community College.
