  • Cause & Affect Gallery
    Cause & Affect Gallery
Classes;  Event / Meeting Space;  Kids & Families;  Museum / Gallery;  Special Events;  Visual Arts
Cause & Affect Gallery began as a need to find space to accommodate a friend who is differently abled in order to take a class in silversmithing. After searching for awhile, the current location was found. The gallery is accessible to all and our classroom space is adaptable for people of differing needs. Inclusion of all is very important to us. The gallery name speaks to what we do. We take various causes and want to make an affect in the greater community. This is done by donating a portion of all of our sales to non-profits. The donations are done on a quarterly basis and we have a list of non-profits that we choose from. There are over 50 Michigan artists whose work is represented at the gallery. The different mediums include painting (acrylic, oil & watercolor), glass, pierced metal, jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, wood turning, laser woodwork, quilting, photography, mixed media, collage, pen & ink and fiber. We offer a number of workshops in the studio space at the gallery. The instructors are artists themselves and they cover a wide variety of mediums. The studio space is 450 square feet and accommodates up to 20 people depending on what medium is being taught. There are workshops for all ages. Art comes in many forms. We have been reaching out to the schools, theater and other organizations to come and be a part of our space. Many different events will be happening in the gallery. While all the art is for sale at the gallery, there is a retail area as well. We are proud to partner with Buy the Change who help women artisans in third world countries. They purchase their goods fair trade. In addition, we carry 4oceans bracelets and are doing our small part to help clean the oceans of the plastic waste that is present. We hope Cause & Affect Gallery inspires you and that you enjoy being immersed in our art.

The current building (1026 E. Kearsley Street, Flint, MI) was dedicated in 1958. The building is being renovated. This will create an inviting, energized environment that welcomes individuals and groups. It will also support the Library’s role as a valued civic space. See YourNewFPL.org for more information on the renovation plans. In May 2020 the Library will open up at its temporary location at Courtland Center, 4190 E. Court Street, Burton. It will be located right next door to the temporary for Sloan Museum. Our hours of service will remain the same; open Tuesday-Thursday 11am-8pm, Friday-Saturday, 9am-6pm, closed Sunday-Monday. The Library is projected to be at Courtland Center through June 2021. At Courtland Center we will offer books and DVDs to check out, computer access and Wi-Fi, lots of children’s programming, and as much other programming as will fit into the space. Fortunately, this location has regular bus service, plenty of parking and hours that fit our library schedule. The Flint Public Library was founded in 1851 by “The Ladies Library Association” a group of women who were active in the local community before Flint was incorporated as a city (1855). It became a Flint Board of Education department in 1885. It evolved into a district library in 2000 with a board comprised of appointees from the City of Flint and the Flint Board of Education. The Flint Public Library is supported by Flint citizens. The building was purchased in 2004 from the Flint Board of Education. The Flint Public Library serves Flint and the surrounding areas. Our mission is to be Flint’s go-to place for learning across the lifespan “Learn for Life.” That means every person, at any age, for any reason, can come here and gain new knowledge: For more on the library go to www.fpl.info For more on the move go to YourNewFPL.org
