I am an emerging Michigan Artist working with mostly acrylics. My paintings are completely my composition. From going out for an evening drive and photographing scenes where the setting sun covers a field with an orange hue to a misty foggy day overlooking a lake. Point of view, angle and subjects are all parts of the painting I wish to include. No concept or work is copied. Being an artist allows me to combine all my passions—travel, outdoors and art. I look for particular subjects to photograph in certain lighting in order to translate the scene onto my canvas.

I have a need to create art and to express my love for nature, color and beauty. My work tells people what I see in a flower, horses or a lake scene. The search for eye-catching scenes is part of the adventure for me.

Lighting is a large inspiration for me also. I love a bright sunny day that emphasizes all the colors in trees and water or a sunset that paints orange light across the earth. Just about everything around me provides inspiration. There are so many subjects I wish to paint I get overwhelmed with the amount of work I plan to make.

My work represents the things that I find beautiful. There are so many such things that my focus might seem broad. Acrylics allow me flexibility in mixing colors and painting what I see. I treat my photo references like a plein aire scene. I look at the photo and draw what I see free-handed. I may use multiple photos to create a composition on campus in order to omit items I don’t want to include in my painting.
