The New McCree Theatre is proud to present James Baldwin’s, The Amen Corner. Imagine all of the back stories that take place in a small storefront church. You’d be amazed!!
The New McCree Theatre, 4601 Clio Road, Flint, is presenting James Baldwin’s award-winning play, The Amen Corner, March 3 – 19, 2022 with performances on Thursday and Friday at 7:00p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Admission is $10.00.
Baldwin, of course, is the author of several critically-acclaimed essays and novels, including I am Not Your Negro, The Fire Next Time, Another Country, Notes of a Native Son, and many more. The Amen Corner is Baldwin’s very first play.
The Amen Corner is the New McCree Theatre’s third major production of its 2021-2022 Season of plays. Its opening was pushed back from the original date of February 17 due to the surge in Covid-19 cases locally.
The Amen Corner is the story of a black woman pastor of a storefront Harlem church whose religious certainty seeds trouble in the congregation and with her own son. The play mines Baldwin’s early life, which was dominated by a strict stepfather pastor and marked by his own teenage years in the pulpit.
