Burton, MI— the public is invited to attend the opening of a photo exhibit that showcases the photographic work from members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Flint, ages 10-14, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., September 25, 2015.  The exhibit is held at For Mar Nature Center and Arboretum at 2142 N. Genesee Road in Burton, MI.

Each summer since 2011, Parks in Focus® has partnered with University Outreach at the University of Michigan-Flint and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Flint to introduce Genesee County youth to local parks and natural areas. This year, they put digital cameras in the hands of 20 Boys and Girls Clubs members ages 10 to 14 and guided them on a series of fun and educational outings to Ligon Outdoor Center, For Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, Bluebell Beach County Park, Stepping Stone Falls, and Applewood Estate. Each program concludes with a visit to the University of Michigan–Flint where participants learn about pre-college programs and create digital stories of their summer adventures. The photographs on display portray the adventures they had and the people, places, plants and animals they met along the way.  

The display will kick off with a public reception at For-Mar’s Visitor Center from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25. The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Parks in Focus® program and meet some of the young photographers. The photographs will be on display through the end of 2015. For Mar’s visitor center is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
