Auditions, For Colored Girls Who Consider Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf

Presented by The New McCree Theatre at The New McCree Theatre

For colored girls tells the stories of seven women who have suffered oppression in a racist and sexist society.  Ntozake Shange’s choreopoem consists of 20 separate poems woven together through choreography and narratives about love, empowerment, struggle and loss into a complex representation of sisterhood. The cast consists of seven nameless African-American women only identified by the colors they are assigned. They are the lady in red, lady in orange, lady in yellow, lady in green, lady in blue, lady in brown, and lady in purple. Subjects from rape, abandonment, abortion, HIV/AIDS and domestic violence are tackled.

Those interested should come prepared to read either from a prepared poem or monologue, and/or from the script; and to present a short creative movement routine.  Those who cannot complete the entire run schedule, without exception, should not apply.  Run dates are March 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7:00 p.m. and March 5, 12, and 19 at 2:00 p.m.  Cast requires seven females, ages 18 and above.
