Kearsley Park Players present Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Presented by Kearsley Park at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum

Kearsley Park Players Announce Final Tour of “Shakespeare in the Park” to Parks Across Genesee County for 13th and Final Season.

For more than a decade, the Kearsley Park Players have brought live productions of Shakespeare’s classic comedies to parks around Genesee County. Along with Shakespeare, the Kearsley Park Players also toured fairy tale children’s shows and presented other comedies and dramas.

“The Kearsley Park Players aren’t going away,” said director Kay Kelly, “But this will be the last season we will be able to take our shows to the parks.”

The 2016 Kearsley Park Players Season will feature Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Flint’s Kearsley Park with the annual Opening Night Fundraising Gala on Friday, June 10. Tickets to the gala are $25.00 and up with Gala Refreshments at 7:30 pm and performance at 8:00 pm. All other performances are free.

The schedule of other performances is:

Saturday, June 11, 8:00 PM  at Kearsley Park
Sunday, June 12, 3:00 PM Matinee presented by the Whiting on the Cultural Center Campus
Thursday, June 16, 7:00 PM ForMar Nature Preserve
Friday, June 17, 7:00 PM Linden County Park
Saturday, June 18, 7:00 PM Flushing County Park
Sunday, June 19, 3:00 PM Matinee, Max Brandon Park, Flint

Changing priorities within the Ruth Mott Foundation have led to its decision to redirect funding that had previously supported this program. “We can’t be ungrateful,” said Kelly. “The Ruth Mott Foundation generously supported the Kearsley Park Project and the Theatre in Our Parks Program for many years. Despite the loss of funding, we decided to proceed with our planned season to allow the thousands of people who attend our shows one last chance to enjoy Shakespeare and fairy tales outdoors in beautiful park settings.”

Later productions in the 2016 season will include “Little Red Riding Hood” Children’s Theatre July 14-17, Gilbert & Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore” August 25-27 and the drama “The Lion In Winter” September 22-24.
