Humanity in Harmony Concert

Humanity in Harmony Concert

Presented by Flint Jewish Federation at Flint Institute of Music

The Fourth Humanity in Harmony Concert will once again be an eclectic mix of styles and culture. Opening the program for the fourth time will be; the Dort Honors String Quartet, four very talented high school musicians from the Flint School of the Performing Arts.

We welcome the distinct bluegrass, roots sounds of Aaron Jonah Lewis and the Corn Potato Band. They bring driving fiddle tunes and harmonious singing to many old styles including ballads, “ho-downs,” country “rags” and southern gospel. They specialize in twin fiddling and double banjo tunes.

We Are The Northern Lights will make their first ever appearance in Michigan This new indie pop-folk supergroup comprised of Hadar Orshalimy on piano and Sheldon Low on guitar draws comparisons to The Civil Wars, Nickel Creek, and Mumford and Sons. Their single “I’m Still Here” was featured on the TV series, “Startup”, starring Adam Brody and their “Take Me Home” is in the award winning film “Beneath” directed by Ben Ketai.

They play at iconic NYC venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, and The Bitter End. We Are The Northern Lights is at work recording their debut album, set for release in 2017.

Also appearing is local jazz group, The Reichlin Small Jazz Quartet. Plus Northern Renaissance is a musical visit to the 50’s and 60’s– the 1550s to the 1660s. The sounds were new, the instruments were new and there were many who were experimenting with music. It was the beginning of modern music!
