NYT Bestselling Author Father Gregory Boyle to speak in Flint area

Presented by Young Life of Genesee County at Holiday Inn Gateway Center

Young Life of Genesee County is proud to present to the Genesee County community Jesuit Father Gregory Boyle, founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. Homeboy traces its roots to 1988, when Father Boyle was the pastor of the poorest parish in the city in a neighborhood with the highest concentration of gang activity. He, his parish and community members first started trying to positively impact the lives of gang-involved teenagers through educational and employment opportunities. Homeboy Industries has grown to become the largest and most successful gang-intervention, rehabilitation, and re-entry program in the world, training and employing former gang members in a range of social enterprises, as well as providing critical services to more than 10,000 people who walk through its doors every year seeking a better life. Father Boyle is the author of the 2010 New York Times bestseller Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. He is the subject of Academy Award winner Freida Lee Mock’s 2012 documentary, G-Dog, has received the California Peace Prize and has been inducted into the California Hall of Fame. In 2014, the White House named Father Boyle a Champion of Change. Most recently, he was named 2016 Humanitarian of the Year by the James Beard Foundation.
