Karen Schneider Jewish Film Festival of Flint

Presented by Flint Institute of Arts and Flint Jewish Federation at Flint Institute of Arts

The 13th annual Karen Schneider Jewish Film Festival of Flint, presented by the Flint Jewish Federation and the Flint Institute of Arts, presents five evenings of movies about Jewish life and culture. The dates and titles, with all shows beginning at 7 p.m. in the FIA Theater, are:

April 30: “On the Map,” a documentary about the “Miracle on Hardwood” basketball victory by the Maccabi Tel Aviv team against a Cold War adversary in 1977.

May 1: “Harmonia,” a modern retelling of the biblical story of Abraham and Sarah, this one involving a childless Israeli musical couple.

May 2 (double bill): “Life, Animated,” an inspirational Academy Award-nominated documentary about an autistic young man who learns to communicate through his love of Disney animated movies, and “Joe’s Violin,” an Oscar-nominated short film about an improbable bond between a Holocaust survivor and a young music student.

May 3: “The Women’s Balcony,” a comedy-drama set in a Jerusalem synagogue where female members rebel against patriarchal power.

May 4: “The Last Band in Lebanon,” an offbeat but upbeat comedy about three reserve soldiers, members of a military rock band, who get lost and must use their love of music to find a way home.
