This Stanley Nelson documentary tells the rise and fall of the Black Panther Party, one of the 20th century’s most alluring and controversial organizations that captivated the world’s attention for nearly 50 years.
This 2-hour film depicts the true story of the Black Panther Party, USA, its vanguard free breakfast programs and its self-defense strategies to combat police brutality and harassment of African Americans. It was a movement that captured the imaginations and hearts of many young African American men and women who were looking for a viable means of repelling oppression and racial discrimination during the heights of the Black Movement. It also depicts that the party\’s perceived threat to the status quo and the establishment\’s protracted efforts to destroy the party through Cointelpro and other measures.
