"Off the Wall" Exhibition Opening and Friday ARTWALK at MW Gallery

Presented by MW Gallery at MW Gallery

Join us for music and refreshments during 2nd Friday ARTWALK on August 9, 2019 from 6 – 9 PM at MW Gallery in downtown Flint. Check out our newest exhibit, “Off the Wall: Sculpture from the Mott-Warsh Collection” on view through January 25, 2020. Enjoy live musical performances by “Kevin Collins’ African/Jazz Trio” inside MW Gallery and “Kuungana African Dance & Drum Company” on Saginaw Street from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.

Our new exhibition presents over 30 sculptures by artists from the Mott-Warsh Collection who employ a broad spectrum of styles and techniques to create three-dimensional and wall mounted works of art. The materials utilized range from the traditional bronze, steel, wood, and ceramic, to unexpected media, such as glass, fiber, synthetic, and repurposed materials. Artists featured in the show include Chakaia Booker, Nick Cave, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Sonya Clark, Mel Edwards, Sam Gilliam, Richard Hunt, Alison Saar, Therman Statom, Bernard Williams, and more.

Visit “Off the Wall: Sculpture from the Mott-Warsh Collection” at MW Gallery to see compelling artworks that continue the African diasporan legacy of imaginative, innovative, and skillful artistic expression.

MW Black Box Gallery:
Our video feature is “Topsy Turvy” (2006), a performance piece by artists Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry that explores the duality between white and black, male and female, father-mother, past and present.
