Shakespeare in the Park – Twelfth Night

Presented by Kearsley Park at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum

“Shakespeare in the Park” Returns to Parks Across Genesee County for 11th Season: Free and Open to the Public.

Flint’s “Shakespeare in the Park” in Kearsley Park is back for its 11th year, bringing classic Shakespeare plays to the heart of Flint and other parks across the city and county.

This year’s production – Twelfth Night – is one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies and is believed to have been originally written as a Christmas entertainment around 1601.The play focuses on the twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. Viola (who is disguised as a boy) falls in love with Duke Orsino, who in turn is in love with the Countess Olivia. Upon meeting Viola, Countess Olivia falls in love with her thinking she is a man. The play expanded on the musical interludes and riotous disorder expected of the occasion with such favorite characters as Feste the clown, Malvolio the austere steward and Sir Toby Belch the feisty drunken uncle of Olivia.

It opens at Kearsley Park with performances on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13 at 8:00 pm, with an afternoon matinee on Sunday, June 14 at 3:00 pm.

The show then moves on to For-Mar Nature Preserve with a performance on Thursday, June 18, at 7:00 pm. The company moves on to Linden County Park on Friday, June 19 at 7:00 pm and Flushing County Park on Saturday, June 21 at 7:00 pm. The final performance will be a matinee performance at Flint’s Max Brandon Park on Sunday, June 21 at 3:00 pm.

Admission to all performances (except the opening night fund raising gala at Kearsley Park) is FREE. Please bring your own lawn chairs everywhere except Kearsley Park. The Opening Gala at Kearsley Park features strawberries and cream before the show and champagne by candlelight afterwards with the actors, all compliments of Fandangles’. Gala tickets are $25.00 and up.
